Terror Raids on Britain – Tour to Pas De Calais

From June 1944 to March 1945, 22,384 V1 rockets were launched, mostly on England – 10,492 just on London. This tour highlights just how close the German army came to the British border and investigates some of the weapons used towards the end of the war. You may also choose to extend this tour by visiting London to include the Cabinet War Rooms and Churchill Museum, and the Imperial War Museum’s Second World War galleries.
Here is a sample 2 day/1 night tour…
Day 1
Travel to Calais. Evening meal and overnight near Calais.
Day 2
Morning visit to La Coupole Museum once a huge underground bunker designed by the Nazis to launch V2 rockets and now a history and remembrance centre exploring German occupation from 1940-1945 through artefacts reconstructions and audiovisual documentary. Afternoon guided visit to the Eperlecques Blockhouse a bunker with both V1 and V2 rocket bases. Here pupils will see an authentic launch pad with a V1 ready for take off. Return to school.
