An introductory tour of the key sites of this ancient city. The city has survived for over 1000 years and the historic town centre remains despite the influences of the Nazi’s and the Soviet Union.
Guided Walking Tour of Josefov
The traditional Jewish Quarter in Prague town centre. The Nazi’s chose to preserve the area with the aim of making it a museum to an extinct people.
The village of Lidice was the site of one of the worst atrocities of World War Two. The assassination of leading Nazi Party member Heydrich lead to the Nazi’s retaliating by killing 340 people from the village of Lidice and razing the buildings to the ground so it would no longer exist.
Terezin Concentration Camp
This Nazi Concentration camp was the location of the deaths of tens of thousands of Jews. 150, 000 were held there during its years of occupation. Many of the people would be held here before being sent to the extermination camps of Treblinka and Auschwitz.
Oskar Schindler was a German industrialist who saved the lives of at least 1200 Jews during the Holocaust. He employed them in his factories which kept them out of the hands of the SS. The museum here documents his efforts and the history of the Jews in Krakow. Schindler has since been honoured by the State of Israel for his efforts.
Auschwitz & Birkenau
The atrocities that happened at Auschwitz and Birkenau show the absolute worst of what humans are capable of doing to each other. The aim of the camp was the systematic extermination of people whom the Nazi’s considered to be inferior. 1.3million people were killed here during the Holocaust and a visit is a must for any student studying the Third Reich.
Opened in 2005 the Holocaust Memorial in Berlin is a tribute to the Jewish victims of the Holocaust. It consists of 2,711 concrete slabs of varying height ordered on a 19,00 square metres site.
Wannsee Conference House
In January 1942 a group of high ranking officials from the Nazi Party met to discus the ‘Final Solution to the Jewish Question’. The Wannsee Villa is now a Holocaust Memorial and here you can learn a great deal about the infamous meeting that decided the fate of the Jews in Nazi Germany.
Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp
A German Concentration camp it housed for the most part political prisoners. The camp was the operational head of the concentration camp system in the Third Reich and many SS officers were trained here before working in concentration camps in overseas territories. After the war it was a Soviet Union special camp.
