Kazimierz Jewish Quarter
The traditional Jewish area of Krakow. You will have tour of the district and learn about life for Polish Jews prior to the events of the Second World War. During which the Jewish population was forced to leave and travel across the river to the ghetto. Many of those subsequently died in the extermination camps or the liquidation of the ghetto.
Oskar Schindler was a German industrialist who saved the lives of at least 1200 Jews during the Holocaust. He employed them in his factories which kept them out of the hands of the SS. The museum here documents his efforts and the history of the Jews in Krakow. Schindler has since been honoured by the State of Israel for his efforts.
Auschwitz & Birkenau
The atrocities that happened at Auschwitz and Birkenau show the absolute worst of what humans are capable of doing to each other. The aim of the camp was the systematic extermination of people whom the Nazi’s considered to be inferior. 1.3million people were killed here during the Holocaust and a visit is a must for any student studying the Third Reich.
