The former Concentration Camp, near Kraków in Poland, is a name that all pupils will recognise. It is possible to visit Kraków and Auschwitz in a long-weekend, including a tour of Każimierz, the Jewish Ghetto and Schindler's factory. Your group will have an extended visit to the camps of Auschwitz and Birkenau, where an experienced guide will accompany you.
- Auschwitz / Birkenau
The former concentration camp and now a memorial and museum. - Jewish Ghetto
The wartime ghetto was created in Podgórze, where 15,000 Polish Jews were crowded into an area that had previously housed 3000. - Każimierz
The Old Jewish district of Kraków, where you will visit a synagogue. - Schindler's Factory
Many Germans moved into the Jewish Ghetto to attempt to profit from the Nazi invasion of Poland. Oskar Schindler was such a man, but in the end he came to save the lives of over 1,100 Jews that worked in his factory, often at great risk to his own life and at personal expense. Schindler's factory is at the moment in the process of becoming a museum.
