This fascinating tour enables pupils to gain understanding of the various components that made up the British war effort including the courage and role of civilians, the war in the air, the war at sea and the introduction of new technologies-Enigma code breaking, radio and radar.
Day 1, Travel to London. Visit to HMS Belfast to explore the ship and attend the D-Day workshop. During the session pupils work together to develop solutions to the problems faced by those planning the D-Day landings. Overnight London.
Day 2, Morning visit to the newly refurbished Imperial War Museum to view the Second World War galleries. Visit to Bletchley Park for guided tour of the Enigma code breaking facilities. Overnight Cambridge area.
Day 3, Morning visit to Duxford to explore the WWII exhibits and aircraft and attend the Battle of Britain workshop. Pupils will have the opportunity to view images and film from the era – look at artifacts and learn about the preparations for the Battle of Britain and the key targets attacked. Return to school.
