The Blitz and the Home Front History

This tour covers the impact of war on British society and the development of warfare. Students will investigate the impact of the infamous ‘Blitz’ air raids, the challenges faced by the British public and the personal sacrifices they made for the war effort.
Day 1, Travel to London. Blitz walking tour of London – Discover the evidence and stories of the air raids that tested the determination and courage of the civilian population of Britain. Overnight London.
Day 2, Visit to the newly refurbished Imperial War Museum to view the Second World War galleries. Afterwards explore the Churchill War Rooms with its maze of underground rooms that once buzzed round the clock planning strategies. As part of your visit to the War Rooms pupils can attend the ‘Life on the home front’ workshop where original artefacts are used to enable pupils to enhance their enquiry skills and further understand the impact of the War on ordinary lives in Britain. A variety of learning resources support these visits.
Day 3, Free time to explore London. Return to school
